WORLD AFFAIRS COUNCIL OF THE MID-HUDSON VALLEY APPLICATION FOR THE ‘EDUCATORS TO OMAN’ PROGRAM, 2012

Dear applicant:

Thank you for your interest in the ‘Educators to Oman’ program, sponsored by the World Affairs Council of the Mid-Hudson Valley (WACMHV) and funded by a very generous grant from the Sultanate of Oman through the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center (SQCC) in Washington, DC.

Oman is a unique Arab state whose progress these last 40 years has been nothing short of spectacular under the leadership of Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said. Both the human and physical infrastructures have been transformed, making Oman one of the most rapidly developing and stable countries in the Middle East. Yet very little is known of this country in the United States. It is for that reason that the WACMHV submitted its ‘Educators to Oman’ proposal to the SQCC in anticipation of observing first hand the progress Oman has made.

The proposal has three components. Phase I involves the selection and orientation of the participants. The application form will be available on the website of the WACMHV, and should be postmarked no later than September 16, 2011. The selection process should be completed by September 30th. A suggested reading list will also be posted on the website. An interactive orientation will take place on a Saturday in the Fall of 2011.

Phase II will take place entirely in Oman and will involve travel throughout Oman in early January, 2012, with visits to schools, including the Sultan Qaboos University, meetings with officials, cultural landmarks and tourist venues.

Phase III: Participants will be expected in incorporate their Omani experiences into their curriculum and share those experiences with their college community and the community at large. A written report by each of the participants is expected at the end of the Spring semester.

WHO MAY APPLY

Professional college level faculty in Dutchess, Ulster and Orange Counties teaching International or Middle Eastern Studies would be given preference, but not to the exclusion of those teaching the other Social Sciences or Humanities.

Each applicant must possess a Passport valid for international travel and/or the ability to acquire a Passport upon notification of acceptance to the program.
